End of Year Reflections…

Paula JohnsonIt’s reflection time again – as the current year draws to a close and the new one is knocking at our door. How many of you go through a ‘reflection’ process? I’ve been doing it for a number of years now. Making time during the last couple of days of the current year – setting aside a couple of hours, getting out my journal, or, in recent years, downloading awesome reflection tools to help prompt me and really discover what I’ve learnt and where I’m heading for the new year.

It’s fun, it’s challenging, and it’s actually quite amazing what you come up with – especially in terms of what the year has brought you (high’s, low’s, things in-between). You don’t realise how far you’ve come or what you’ve achieved unless you STOP and reflect. Simple. It’s well worth an hour or two of your time – promise.

I have been reading back over my notes from the end of 2012 and what I wanted to create for 2013. There were three main things I wanted to achieve for this year – most of it happened but not all of it – and that’s ok…it’s an ever evolving process, and to be honest, I had completely forgotten what they were. I just got on with life and followed my heart. And now, looking back at what I thought I wanted and what actually happened, it all worked out perfectly in any case :-).

My three things for 2013 were:
1. Travel to Bali/India/Thailand and volunteer
2. Create an e-course
3. Do editing work for www.fivepointfive.org

Well, I didn’t get to India or Thailand BUT I certainly made up for that with 5 months in Bali, and of course volunteering at the Yayasan and spending time with my beloved Yogi and Ari.

Beach fun

I didn’t create my e-course, and to be honest, it’s not a priority this year either. It will happen when it happens, or it may not happen at all – there’s certainly no shortage of e-courses out there at the moment!

I did do editing for www.fivepointfive.org and I love it. Serena and Johnny are amazing at what they are doing and I love supporting and helping them on their journey because I get to share it too :-).

It was my intention to say YES to these three things for 2013:
1. Continuing to stretch and grow even though at times it’s bloody terrifying and uncomfortable.
2. Putting myself out there and meeting new people.
3. Facing challenges head-on. I CAN do this!

Yep, can check all those boxes, and I could not have imagined in all my wildest dreams the places I went and the beautiful people I met. My life just got a whole lot richer and fuller because of those amazing connections.

New Friends

Three words to describe My Meaningful 2013:
1. Adventure
2. Fulfillment
3. Love

I chose these at the end of 2012, and guess what? I couldn’t have picked three better words – all 100% correct. When I read them again – my heart swells, tears come to my eyes, and I laugh – absolutely perfect!

2013 has been an INCREDIBLE year for me. In fact, I think I could say it’s been the best year of my life…that’s a pretty bold statement, but I really feel that way. I stretched, I grew, I stepped into my power again, and I LOVED what I was experiencing. TRUST was my word for 2013 and I did. I trusted with all my heart (sometimes not easy) and I went with what felt right (my intuition), and all was perfect – really. Most of you have followed me on that journey (thank you), and if you haven’t but would like to know what I got up to then click Follow Your Dreams and find out :-).

Now, I’m trying to come up with my word for 2014…I have a few written down but none are jumping out at me yet like this year’s one did. It will – and when it does I’ll let you know :-).

So, I highly encourage ‘reflection’ time. If you need help with where to start, I recommend Leonie Dawson’s Create an Amazing 2014 in Your Life + Biz – Workbook, Planner + Calendar – I’ve downloaded it myself – it’s fun, it’s creative, it’s funky and it totally ROCKS!

Leonie Dawson Create an amazing 2014

So get reflecting, get inspired, and create a fab 2014 for yourself – I know I am :-).

Just to finish – I came across this poem I had saved on my computer, it totally resonates with what 2013 was for me and what 2014 is shaping up to be. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do…

For a New Beginning…

By John O’Donohue (1956-2008)

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the grey promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
