Being Authentic

Lion of CourageBeing authentic takes courage, lots of courage.  You need to be comfortable laying yourself bare to all, warts and all and that’s not easy…

I was talking with a good friend of mine today, actually she was coaching me through one of my ‘moments’ when nothing is going how it’s ‘meant’ to, nothing is flowing, I’m feeling lost and floundering.

Actually, she hit the nail on the head – I’m projecting this future of things not working out how I want them to BEFORE they’ve even happened – you know – FEAR – False Expectations Appearing Real – it’s the expectations that get me, each and every time.  I expect things to be a certain way and when they’re not, damn it if I don’t start stressing about it and wishing it was somehow different and doing my darndest to fight against it.

I know I’m not alone, we all do it, to varying degrees.  Don’t you just drive yourself crazy!

Anyway, she also mentioned a website to check out, so I did, and I loved this video blog from Kara-Leah so much that I wanted to share it.  It’s about being AUTHENTIC – being real.  Instead of putting your ‘mask’ on to show the world, how about  being how you really are?  If you’re feeling crappy, be crappy, it’s ok, we all feel like that from time to time.  If you’re feeling fantastic, be fantastic, of course that’s the much better option 🙂  The thing is we can’t be perfect all the time but we try and show everyone that we are even when we’re not.

So, I’d just like to be authentic and let you know, that at the moment I’m struggling with some things, that I’m not feeling the together, happy, smiling, amazing person you may think I am…I’m reading a great book at the moment called “The Roadless Traveller” by Sean Tretheway and one of the main character’s in it says he feels like he’s in “an invisible prison surrounded by total freedom” – that’s exactly how I’m feeling at the moment.

I know it’s all head stuff – my mind getting in the way of myself and I also know that ‘this too shall pass’, that I’m just in a transition phase for a while – slowly letting go of the old to make way for the new.  If my life becomes what I intend it to become it will all be worth it so in the meantime I’m keeping on keeping on, taking one day at a time and continuting to post to my beautiful community of followers because I love it and it’s part of the amazing life I am shaping for the future.  Plus I’m going to do some EFT to help ease the intensity of emotion I’m feeling.

I hope you enjoy Kara-Leah’s video as much as I did:

So, how authentic are you?  What ‘masks’ do you put on to the world?  I’d love to hear your views…

  1. Hey Paula,

Sounds like you’re doing a great job of witnessing the flow of life… and realising that this too will pass. It is great when people share what’s actually going on for them, instead of putting up a facade. Then we can respond according to what they actually need. The communication improves all round!

    Many blessings,
    Kara-Leah
